Android doesn't offer a settings option to check SIM restrictions like newer iPhones do, but you still have ways to find out. You may follow the steps below:
- Open Settings from the drop-down menu or App Drawer.
- Go to Connections, Network & Internet, or similar depending on your device.
- Select Mobile network, Cellular network, or a similar option.
- Tap Advanced (if needed) and choose Choose Network or Automatically select network to view available carriers.
- If multiple carriers appear, your phone is likely unlocked and just needs the correct SIM card. To be sure, proceed to Step 6.
- Remove your old SIM card and insert the new one from another carrier. Disable Wi-Fi and try using mobile data to browse the internet.
- If you can browse the internet, your phone is unlocked.
If you don't have an activated SIM card for the new carrier, borrow someone else's SIM card to see if you can make a call or browse the web.
You can also call your current carrier to confirm if your phone is locked or unlocked!
